MONTEVALLO – The American Village has announced the cancellation of its annual Fourth of July event amid the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

“The American Village in Montevallo regrets that it will not host its annual Independence Day celebration this July 4th,” a press release read. “The decision to forgo the event was made due to the continuing public health concerns about very large gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In mid-March, the venue closed and canceled activities, such as school and public programming and the Festival of Tulips, as the threat of the virus grew.

The American Village looks forward to a return of the annual Independence Day festivities next year, on July 4, the release read.

The American Village will post a special virtual Independence Day celebration on its website, Americanvillage.org.
