The Veteran of the Week is sponsored by the National Veterans Shrine and Register of Honor at the American Village — honoring America’s veterans and telling the stories of their service and sacrifice for the cause of liberty.

On the brick plaza outside the National Veterans Shrine at the American Village, beneath the bronze statue Liberty Uniting the Colonies, is enshrined hallowed ground secured from battlefields around the world where men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States of America gave the last full measure of devotion for our country and the cause of liberty. “On this Memorial Day weekend, the American Village is pleased to join the Shelby County Reporter in recognizing those who gave the last full measure of devotion to our country as Veterans of the Week,” American Village founder and CEO Tom Walker said. “Hundreds of thousands of Alabamians have risked it all for the sake of our country and its freedom. To all veterans, and especially today to those who gave their lives, we owe a debt we can never fully repay, and we say WE WILL NEVER FORGET your service and sacrifice.”
