FROM STAFF REPORTS
CALERA – Calera Main Street has big plans for Saturday, June 6.
The Historic Downtown District will officially welcome three new businesses and celebrate the district’s reopening after COVID-19 with a day full of activities for the whole family.
“With stores and restaurants now open and people beginning to venture out again, there’s no better time to announce a triple ribbon cutting,” Calera Main Street Executive Director Jackie Batson said. “We are planning a fun day for the whole family. We want everyone to feel safe, so we’re spacing things out and will maintain social distancing precautions so that we can introduce our community to these new businesses and have a little fun while we’re at it. We are calling it ‘Six on the Sixth!’ As in six feet apart!”
The day will start with progressive ribbon cuttings signifying the official grand opening of Sun Esthetic & Spa (10 a.m.), The Garage Kickboxing (10:30 a.m.) and R.O.E. Hobby (11 a.m.).
The rest of the day will be filled with family-friendly activities, door prizes, giveaways, food trucks, demonstrations and more. The fun will culminate with a drive-in movie in the Calera Courtyard.

Social distancing will be of the utmost importance as this is the first public gathering since the pandemic, organizers said. Staff and volunteers will all be wearing masks, and all attendees are encouraged to follow CDC social distancing recommendations as well.
Food trucks will be parked in the lot of Calera Auto Sales to allow for 6-foot spacing between guests. Hand washing stations will be available, and volunteers will be spread around the district to monitor social distancing and assist with safety.
“By spacing out the activities throughout the day and being out in the open we hope to provide a chance for the community to get out and about and enjoy the day while still respecting all the guidelines of social distancing for the health and safety of our community,” Batson said. “It goes without saying, but if anyone is experiencing symptoms or is high risk for infection, please continue to shelter in place.”
“We are proud to see new life being breathed into Calera’s downtown,” Mayor Jon Graham said. “It’s exciting to see buildings being renovated, new businesses moving in, and our community beginning to enjoy hanging out on Main Street!”
