COLUMBIANA – City employees in several departments will receive a temporary pay increase for their work during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
The Columbiana City Council on April 21 approved a resolution for an increase in employees’ base pay (hourly rate) for regular hours by 5 percent for the next two pay cycles.
“The City of Columbiana, Alabama wishes to acknowledge employees that have increased exposure to COVID-19 while performing their job duties,” the resolution reads. “These employees are in the police, fire, street/sanitation, sewer, court and senior center departments.”
In other business, the council approved a proclamation in support of Miss Shelby County 2020 Shiann Harper as she competes for the title of Miss Alabama 2020.
Harper is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she was a biology major and chemistry minor with a pre-dental concentration.
Her social impact initiative is “Smile,” which seeks to instill confidence in children through preventive dental care.
