WILSONVILLE – For Wilsonville resident Penny Kovakas, grocery shopping takes less than 10 minutes from start to finish, thanks to the team at Hudd’s Food Center on North Main Street.
“I just call in my order at Hudd’s and they take down my list by phone,” Kovakas said. “I drive up, they put all of my groceries in the car for me, I pay them and off I go. They’re not a chain store so they don’t have a very large staff and they’re doing such a beautiful job of helping those who can’t get out.”
Store manager Connie Smith said Hudd’s has been offering the grocery pick-up services to area senior citizens for about three weeks now. She estimates that the store helps more than 50 seniors per week. Seniors comes from surrounding cities such as Columbiana, Vincent, Harpersville and Chelsea.
“We might not always have every single item they want but we try our best to make sure each order is completely filled,” Smith said.
Customers are allowed to pay by debit/credit card over the phone or in-person, or with a check.
“We try to help anybody that we can,” Smith said. “Right now, we feel like the elderly need our help more because it’s harder and riskier for them to get in and out of stores.”
Kovakas said she’s thankful to the staff at Hudd’s for their help.
“It’s so wonderful and it’s just a blessing,” Kovakas said.
