CALERA — An act of kindness can go a long way. Calera resident Alyssa Corpstein decided to help her neighbors and support one of her favorite local businesses at the same time by mailing out gift cards.
Corpstein purchased several gift cards from Adventurer’s Coffee Co., a local coffee shop on Alabama 25 in Calera, and mailed them to neighbors. She discovered the idea on a social media account called Family Teams, which featured ideas for how families can contribute to communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Just doing our part to help make the neighborhood a happier, more cheerful place,” she said. “Everyone is trying to do their part keeping local businesses afloat so when we go back to the real world we will still have local businesses we can enjoy.”
Corpstein encourages people to purchase meals from local restaurants offering curbside delivery and says her family tries to do this at least once per week.
Like other Shelby County food establishments, Adventurer’s Coffee Co. is doing call-in orders only and has its phone number prominently displayed on the front door. The shop also has a presence on social media sites like Facebook.
Taylor Neal of Adventurer’s Coffee Co. indicated that other customers have also encouraged residents to shop local.
“We really have some of the best customers,” he said.
