HELENA – After 13 years of service in Montevallo and 40 years of experience in lawn care and landscaping, Johnny M. Stephens, founder of Cedar Creek Nursery and his son, John F. Stephens, who is co-founder, decided to expand their gardening business to a new location.
The new location will open in Helena and is about 15 miles away from the original location in Montevallo.
“The nursery in Montevallo will still be our largest facility, it’s our mothership,” John F. Stephens said. “The Helena branch will be like our outpost and we will still have a big selection but because of the room restriction we won’t have quite as much.”
The new Helena branch will have 3 1/2 acres of land and John F. Stephens encourages customers who shop at the new Helena location will have the same gardening experience.
“The customers will get fully taken care of at either location,” he said. “We will work night and day to keep it fully stocked in Helena, but as far as the holding facility, it’s probably double the room here in Montevallo.”
He added that he’s unsure about how many people will shop at the newest location, but he is hopeful that it will be a great turnout because most of their customers come from that area.
“The feedback is very positive,” he said. “We’ve had very positive comments on social media, and I have received numerous phone calls talking about how excited everyone is. Helena is centrally located, and we have a large number of customers coming from Alabaster, Pelham, Hoover, Helena and even Bessemer so that’s what appealed to us the most about the Helena location”.
John and his father have not set an opening date for the nursery in Helena but they expect to have the second location completed by April 1.
