HELENA – On Feb. 19 the First Baptist Church of Helena held a free kick-off event for their Olympians Children’s Ministry, which will be a weekly ministry taking place every following Wednesday.
The kick-off event began a ministry event intended for all children in kindergarten through sixth grade set the stage for the ministry’s upcoming children’s Olympics at the church.
Every Wednesday starting Feb. 26, the church will conduct children’s classes as part of the Olympians curriculum from Word of Life.
“The kick-off event was free and featured a racetrack tournament with prizes,” said Janet Roberta, Ministry Assistant. “We also got to enjoy dinner and had other activities for the children.”
Its intent during the kickoff and throughout the Olympics is intended to tie in the theme of the Word of Life Olympians Children’s Ministry program, according to Roberta. The program is a series of classes with curriculum provided by Word of Life, to help teach children important biblical lessons.
“Word of Life’s Children’s Ministry Program is built on a powerful goal: to lay a solid foundation of biblical principles at a young age in the lives of children. We want to teach them from the very start the important fundamentals of spiritual growth. The Olympian ministry is built on an important theme in Scripture; the olympic athlete. Paul uses this illustration often saying that he wanted to finish the race.“From year to year our goal is to help students move forward as spiritual athletes in the great race of the christian life, ” according to Word of Life’s website.
The weekly classes will also feature dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. and the church plans to continue them as long as possible.
