FROM STAFF REPORTS

Beginning Saturday, Feb. 8, the University of Montevallo Stephens College of Business will once again offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Offered for the past several years, the service allows low-to-moderate income citizens to get their taxes filed for free by certified student volunteers. The service is also available at no cost to area first responders. The VITA program offers invaluable experience for student volunteers.

The VITA program will be offered in Morgan Hall room 202 each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until April 11. Those seeking to utilize the service are encouraged to make an appointment by calling (205) 665-6531. The service will also be available during weekdays on an appointment-only basis.

Clients will need to bring a photo ID/driver’s license; Social Security number for each family member; W-2s; 1099s and other income forms; bank routing/account numbers for direct deposit of refunds; childcare provider name, address and tax ID. Other helpful information includes any deduction details, such as medical, property tax, mortgage interest, tuition expenses or student loan interest.
