Three finish in double figures as Helena takes down Mortimer Jordan

KIMBERLY – The Helena Huskies closed out 2019 with solid play and they brought that momentum into 2020 as the Huskies took care of Mortimer Jordan 72-49 on Friday, Jan. 3, as they’ve now won 10 of their last 11 games.
Helena had three finish in double figures and connected on eight 3-pointers as a team to pull away in the 23-point win.
Helena’s Caden Pierce led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Kellen Watkins finishing with 17 points and Daunte Cave with 12 points.
Watkins provided the Huskies a big spark in the first half as he made three 3-pointers and scored 15 of his 17 points in the first two quarters that helped give Helena a 37-26 halftime advantage.
Defensively, Helena kept Mortimer Jordan in check as Christen Nelms was the only Blue Devil to finish in double figures with 12 points.
Helena’s best quarter came in the third period when they outscored the Blue Devils 21-10 as six different players recorded a basket to stretch the lead to 58-36.
Helena finished 7-of-8 from the foul line while Mortimer Jordan went 4-of-10. The Huskies will now turn their attention to area play as they will travel to Calera on Jan. 7 and then face another tough road test at rival Pelham on Jan. 10.
