PELHAM – Those interested in starting off the New Year in the great outdoors will have a chance to do so thanks to a hiking event planned for Jan. 1, 2020, at Oak Mountain State Park.
The King’s Chair Sunrise First Day Hike is planned for Wednesday, Jan. 1, at 5:30 a.m.
The pre-sunrise hike will allow hikers to be among the first people to watch the sunrise on the first day of 2020 as those of all ages are welcome to attend to make the hike to King’s Chair.
Hikers should meet at the North Trailhead at Oak Mountain State Park and be prepared to hike in the dark. Should the weather be bad, organizers said the hike will be moved to later in the day.
Event organizers said although all ages are welcome, the hike is considered a more advanced hike for some and it is not stroller friendly.
In preparation for the hike, those attending should bring the following:
–Weather appropriate clothing
–A flashlight or headlamp
–Water
–Snacks
–Hiking poles/stick
–Camera
Hikers should be at the front gate entrance only at Oak Mountain State Park.
