Water can do much more than help your garden grow. AquaScapes, a division of DSLD Land Management Company, is helping its clients discover the benefits of adding aquatic elements to their landscapes.
The company, located off U.S. 280 across from Lee Branch, has installed several pond and waterfall displays at its location, which serves as a comprehensive water garden resource center for Central Alabama.
AquaScapes is the company’s first retail location in the Birmingham area with a retail store where all water garden supplies can be found.
“Over our 36-year history, we’ve designed and installed dozens of swimming pools and water features,” said Business Manager Hope Brown. “Water features are aesthetically pleasing, and also been shown to have a powerful effect on personal well-being. AquaScapes visitors will experience those effects firsthand in a tranquil and inspirational setting. Incorporating a water feature into the landscape add peace and tranquility into your design, whether it’s the backyard focal point like a swimming pool or a gurgling fountain accent in a garden courtyard.”
The store carries fountains and garden statuary, pond building materials, premium live koi and goldfish, aquatic plants, pond maintenance supplies and garden-themed gifts and décor. They also offer pond and water feature maintenance services.
AquaScapes designs and installs everything from hardscape patios and walkways to retaining walls, metal and wood fencing, screened porches, fire pits, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, landscape drainage and erosion control solutions, automatic irrigation, outdoor sound systems, landscape lighting, natural boulder stairways, lawn and garden areas, dry creeks, swimming pools and ponds, koi ponds and pond-less water features, to name a few.
The company also has a highly qualified team of licensed landscape designers, landscape architects, engineers, horticulturists and support personnel on staff to handle any project, large or small. They even have a marine biologist on staff to answer aquatic wildlife questions.
“Historically, the majority of our clients have been residential. We welcome projects of any scope and size and we have the expanded capability to handle all kinds of commercial work,” Brown said. “The displays at AquaScapes are just a sampling of the kind of ponds that are available to our clients. Of course, every pond we build is unique to the individual client based on their needs and wishes.”
David Sharp started DSLD Land Management in Jefferson County in 1983 after graduating from Samford University. Over the years, he built it into a robust family business and moved to North Shelby about 20 years ago. The company plans to continue expanding its footprint into the Central Alabama market by opening Alabama’s first authorized Desjoyaux Pools dealership in 2020.
“Desjoyaux is a unique membrane swimming pool system, the design of which is unlike any other pool on the U.S. market,” Brown said. “Desjoyaux is the number one swimming pool in the world and we’re thrilled to bring it to Birmingham!”
AquaScapes is located at 5485 U.S. 280 across from Lee Branch shopping center. To find them, turn into Hanna’s Garden Shop and they are located across from the nursery in the brick building.
