PCS approves new assistant principal for Pelham Oaks

PELHAM – There will be a new assistant principal at Pelham Oaks Elementary School after the Pelham City Schools Board of Education approved the personnel change at a special called board meeting the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The Pelham board members approved current Thompson Intermediate School fifth-grade teacher Sharon Cooper to take over as the assistant principal at Pelham Oaks.
Cooper is in her 19th year of teaching fifth grade at TIS. She has taught math, science and social studies.
Cooper has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, a master’s degree in elementary education from The University of Montevallo and she holds a certificate in instructional leadership from The University of Montevallo.
Other personnel actions approved at the board meeting included the hiring of Nikki Gamble as a teacher for Pelham Oaks, the hiring of Samantha Greenblatt as a special education teacher for Pelham Ridge Elementary School and the hiring of Susan Perkins as an intervention and ELL teacher.
The Pelham City Schools Board of Education meetings are typically held on the last Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
