TUSCALOOSA – The Helena Huskies varsity girls’ basketball team is off to a winning start in the 2019-20 season with an impressive win over Linden High School to open the season on Thursday, Nov. 7.
Led by senior Brooklyn Oden’s 23 points, the Huskies never trailed in any quarter on their way to a 51-21 win.
The 30-point win was in large part to Helena’s defense forcing 18 turnovers and not allowing Linden to score in double figures in any of the four quarters.
“Linden was an athletic, physical team,” Helena head coach Alan Skinner said. “Our girls came out with energy early and defended really well. Made a lot of sloppy, first game mistakes, but all-in-all I’m proud of their effort and glad we were able to open the season with a win.”
The second leading scorer for Helena was junior Kya Gardner who finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
Up next, Helena will travel to take on Homewood on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
