Alabaster Veterans Day ceremony set for Nov. 8

ALABASTER – The city will continue one of its traditions on Friday, Nov. 8, when it hosts a Veterans Day ceremony to honor local veterans.
The city’s Veterans Day ceremony will be at 9 a.m. at the veterans’ memorial at Veterans Park off Alabama 119 in southern Alabaster.
The event will begin with a welcome from Mayor Marty Handlon, followed by a prayer from Lee Martinez with Church of the Highlands. Boy Scout Troop 548 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the national anthem will be done by Sentimental Gentlemen.
The guest speaker will be Col. Danny Sample and the flag retirement will be conducted by Troop 548, during which troop members will place folded tattered or damaged U.S. flags into an urn to be burned.
Following the flag retirement ceremony, Handlon will provide closing remarks.
