MONTEVALLO – Members of Aldrich First Baptist Church are working to collect coats and jackets for anyone in need of extra layers as temperatures outside start to drop.
The church is holding its first coat drive Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5-8 p.m. in conjunction with the Shelby Baptist Association’s mobile food pantry on the church grounds.
“This is the first year we’ve done just a coat drive,” church member Veronica Bailey said. “In the past, we have done a clothing giveaway, but that was before school started.”
Bailey said the SBA will park its mobile food trailer in the church parking lot on the day of the giveaway.
Those who need food assistance should bring to the event a valid driver’s license, Social Security card and proof of residency for members of their households.
The church is still accepting gently used coats and jackets in all sizes for women, men and children for the coat giveaway.
Bailey said coats do not have to be new; they can just be extras people have in their closets and do not wear anymore.
“It doesn’t matter the reason, as long as it’s something somebody else can benefit from,” she said.
Anyone wanting to donate coats can give them to an Aldrich First Baptist Church member or call Veronica Bailey at (205) 368-3927 or Pastor Travis Marler at (205) 955-0396.
Aldrich First Baptist Church is located at 1164 Highway 10 in Montevallo.
