NORTH SHELBY – National Night Out is returning to Heardmont Park.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office hosts a free family event in conjunction with National Night Out at different locations each year.
This year’s event will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Heardmont Park off Alabama 119 in North Shelby County, offering local residents the opportunity to spend time with law enforcement and other first responders in a stress-free, family-friendly environment.
“This event enhances the relationship between the neighbors and first responders by bringing the community and police and fire together in a positive, fun setting,” reads a Facebook post from the SCSO.
The Sheriff’s Office’s National Night Out event was held at the Chelsea Walmart last year, and the department partnered with the Pelham Police Department two years ago.
The event will feature first responder equipment such as police vehicles, fire trucks, wreckers, ambulances, helicopters, boats and a SWAT vehicle.
Families can enjoy free hot dogs, drinks, music, face painting, bounce houses and conversation with public safety professionals.
“There is a lot of non-profit and community service organizations that are coming, and then just a lot of fun stuff,” said Debbie Sumrall, community outreach with the SCSO. “We will have several fire apparatus, Sheriff’s Office stuff—command center, helicopter, patrol cars—an Army National Guard Humvee and off-road vehicle.
“There will be a lot to walk around and look at. It’s educational and it’s entertaining for the children.”
