ALABASTER – Judy Green and Thompson Volleyball continued its best year to date as the Warriors downed Montevallo and Northridge in consecutive sweeps Tuesday, Sept. 3. The No. 4 Warriors jumped out to early leads and cruised by the Bulldogs 25-8 and 25-10, but had a little more trouble putting the Jaguars away. Still, Thompson (15-3) finished its final opponent off in straight sets 25-19 and 25-17.
The Warriors’ first match was technical perfection as nine players were credited with service aces, yet the team recorded zero serve receive errors. Isabelle Goolsby led the team with four, three of which came in a single series that sealed the second set for good against Montevallo.
Thompson built big early leads of 10-1 and 10-2 in both sets and were able to work in subs for the remainder. Bri Wilson led the team with five kills, followed closely by Sophie Bearden and Kolbi Reed with four each.
Kelsey Tangle ran the offense and racked up 15 assists, two kills and two aces in the match. Kinsleigh Sabo also had a good all-around game with four digs, two assists and two aces.
The Northridge Jaguars proved to be tougher to put away, but the Warriors’ front line was too much to handle. Wilson again led the team pounding nine kills into the court to lead the team while Bearden picked up six and Kolbi Reed and Jada White recorded five each.
Sabo was clutch again on defense and added 10 more digs and five more assists to her total on the night from the libero position. Tangle was prolific again handing out a monster 22 assists to give her 37 total.
Bearden and White were also active along the net as they recorded three and two blocks, respectively.
The ladies will return to the court Thursday, Sept 5 and host Montgomery Academy and the Jaguars of Spain Park. The Warriors are scheduled to meet
