CALERA – A ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 24, marked the official grand opening of Kidz Town, a soft playground facility located on U.S. 31, right behind Dollar General.
The owners are a husband-wife team, Trey and Jerlanda Sanders, who live in Calera and grew tired of driving to Hoover or Birmingham to find a suitable place for their young daughter to play.
“We took our daughter to a popular spot in Hoover and it was overwhelming for her because she was only a year old,” Trey Sanders said. “We wanted something closer to home and that was more tailored to younger kids.”
Jerlanda Sanders said the soft playground is appropriate for children 6 months to about 7 years old. The facility includes a bouncy house with a ball pit and slide attached, a climbing wall, play kitchen sets, crawling tunnels and more. There’s also a party room that can hold 15-20 kids and private parties can be arranged upon request.
For adults, there’s free coffee and Wi-Fi.
“We wanted to make sure we provided Wi-Fi for parents who might want to get some work done while their child is playing,” Jerlanda Sanders said.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 1-6 p.m. The facility’s address is 5075 U.S. 31 North, Suite C.
