ALABASTER – With a new school year right around the corner, Carmeuse Longview is kicking off its 2019 Carmeuse Cares School Supply Drive benefiting Alabaster City Schools on July 19.
Carmeuse Longview, a division of Carmeuse North America, is a producer of high calcium and dolomitic lime and specializes in manufacturing quicklime, chemical-grade limestone, milled limestone and crushed limestone aggregate products.
Carmeuse has made a commitment to helping students and teachers access the supplies they need to have a successful academic year.
From July 19 to Aug. 2, Carmeuse will be collecting school supplies at the main office of its production facility located at 599 U.S. 31 South. Carmeuse is asking the community to support local teachers and students by donating school supplies.
Items most needed in Alabaster classrooms include crayons, loose-leaf paper, colored pencils, pens, glue sticks, facial tissue, scissors and erasers.
Staples, located near the Pelham-Alabaster line at 3552 Pelham Parkway, will serve as an additional drop-off location from July 27-28 in conjunction with the store’s teacher appreciation event.
Recognizing that teachers often must spend out-of-pocket funds on providing supplies for their classrooms, Carmeuse has also pledged $250 in matching donations to individual classrooms in the Alabaster City Schools system.
“We know how hard our local teachers work to support and educate our students,” said Jackie Padgett, senior area environmental manager at Carmeuse Longview. “By hosting this school supply drive, we hope not only to give back to the Alabaster community, but also to acknowledge and thank Alabaster teachers for all that they do.”
By hosting the school supply drive during the Alabama tax-free weekend, Carmeuse hopes local community members will be encouraged to pick up some extra supplies to donate while doing their back-to-school shopping.
