COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Board of Education approved several administrative positions at the Thursday, June 27 Board of Education meeting.

Sharyn Hillin was named the Special Education Coordinator. Hillin has more than 27 years of experience in education, 22 of which have been with Shelby County Schools. She taught middle and high school special education for 12 years, became the assistant principal at the Linda Nolen Learning Center, served as the Special Education Program Specialist for six area schools in Shelby County and most recently served as the special education supervisor. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in special education. She completed the educational administration program at the University of Montevallo and a master’s degree in educational leadership at UAB. She is currently working towards her Ph.D at UAB.

Michael Jones was approved as Student Services Coordinator. Jones has 14 years of experience in education and is currently serving as the student services supervisor. Jones obtained his bachelor’s degree in health and human performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master’s degree in collaborative education from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in instructional leadership and an educational specialist degree in teacher leadership from the University of Montevallo.

Courtney Madison will serve as the next principal of Elvin Hill Elementary School. Madison has 10 years of experience and currently serves as an assistant principal at Helena Intermediate School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in instructional leadership from the University of Montevallo.

The new interim principal for Forest Oaks Elementary School is Stevi Sims. Sims started her career in Shelby County as a special education teacher at Meadow View Elementary School. She has also served as an assistant principal at Vincent Elementary and Chelsea Intermediate. She has been most recently serving as the assistant principal at Forest Oaks Elementary School.

Ann-Marie Sturdivant will serve as the new assistant principal at the Linda Nolen Learning Center. Sturdivant served as a teacher at Shelby County High School and is currently the assistant principal at Chelsea Middle School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Birmingham-Southern College and a master’s degree from UAB. She completed her administrative certification and her educational specialist degree in instructional leadership at the University of Montevallo.

Treasa Daly will serve as the Nurse Supervisor. She has been employed with the Shelby County School District for more than 13 years, where she most recently served as a floating nurse. Daly has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University and a master’s degree in nursing from Capella University.

The next Shelby County Board of Education meeting will be Tuesday, July 16, at noon at the Shelby County Instructional Services Building.
