PELHAM – The Pelham Public Library has partnered with the Shelby County Foster Parents Association to host a school supplies drive to benefit students in Shelby County who are in foster care.
From June 18 to July 12, the library is accepting new school supplies, packages of new underwear and socks in children’s sizes extra-small to extra-large, new or very gently used backpacks and cash donations. Donations of gift cards and cash/checks are also accepted in any amount. Checks made out to Shelby County Foster Parents Association are tax exempt.
A monetary donation of $20 will purchase a new backpack for a child in need and $35 will purchase a new pair of shoes.
Donations can be dropped off at the library, 2000 Pelham Park Boulevard. Library supervisor David Smith said donations can be placed in a bin located on the main floor of the library and monetary donations can be put in a drop box at the circulation desk.
“As a library, we get to help kids with their homework and their book reports, so this is just another way that we can help kids in the county,” Smith said.
