NORTH SHELBY – XTERRA Global LLC, owners and producers of the XTERRA World Tour, donated $2,000 on behalf of the XTERRA community to the Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers (BUMP) on Saturday, May 18, at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham.

BUMP, the local trails advocacy group, has spent more than 100,000 hours on the design and construction of new trails at Oak Mountain State Park over the past 20+ years and to this day are hard at work to build, preserve, maintain, and ride the sweet single track in the park.

“We’ve been hosting XTERRA off-road triathlons and trail runs at Oak Mountain since 2006, and each year the trails get better and better,” said XTERRA President, Janet Clark.  “The credit for that belongs to the Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers, who in conjunction with the State of Alabama, City of Pelham, and Shelby County, have created a world-class venue for outdoor sports like ours, and we are eternally grateful.”

Clark presented BUMPs race director, Mike Wilson, who also volunteered at the event, with an oversized check at the XTERRA Oak Mountain off-road triathlon awards ceremony on May 18, and in a resounding show of support, dozens upon dozens of event participants jumped on stage to shake Mike’s hand and show their appreciation for BUMPs contributions.

Since 1994, BUMP has gained and maintained access to Oak Mountain State Park, Tannehill State Park, and Trussville Sports Complex, built miles of new trail, and maintained the relationships with land managers and state and local governments necessary to maintain this trail access. BUMP, a non-profit 501 (3) c organization, gets most of its income from sponsors, race proceeds and contributions, but the backbone of our success is individual members who support us with their dues and volunteer hours.
