William C. “Bill” Sims

William C. “Bill” Sims, age 83, of Jemison, passed away at home Monday, May 20, after battling several types of cancer.
He was born July 23, 1935 to Mary Louise Vernon and Monette Sims in Boothton. After graduating from Bibb County High School, he joined the US Navy performing various aircraft mechanic duties. After his time in the service, he settled in Bakersfield, California working as an aircraft mechanic. In 1969, he and his family moved to Montevallo, where he continued to work on aircraft and later as a mechanic for Alabama Power retiring in the early 90s.
He is preceded in death by his mother; father; sister “Kitty”; and grandson, Jeremy Lawrence.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Ann Sims; daughter, Linda Hill (Kenny); son, Patrick Sims; grandchildren, Summer Sullivan (Jason), Will Hill (Ana), Seth Lawrence (Ashley), Adrian Sims, Tyler Snow (Lauren), Jasper Sims; great-grandchildren, Colton and Catelyn Sullivan, Grayson Scalise, Brennon Marlin, Camden and Brooklyn Lawrence, Lorali, Knox and Willow Hill, Kinedei Gilbreath, and Anderson and Ryleigh Snow; sisters, Nancy Williams and Vonceil Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews, including most dear to his heart, Debbie Giles.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 22 from 5-7 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). A graveside service will commence Thursday, May 23 at 10:15 a.m. at Alabama National Cemetery.
The family requests any memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
