HOOVER – Brook Highland Bar and Grill managing partner Daryl Whitfield’s vision is for the restaurant to offer something for everyone.
From bar fare to Southern comfort classics served at a convenient location that offers amenities including a large patio with live music, Brook Highland Bar and Grill could become a new favorite in the U.S. 280 area.
“I want it to be a place that offers something for everybody,” Managing Partner Daryl Whitfield said.
The restaurant opened this spring, and a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony sponsored by the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce was held on Tuesday, May 7.
Whitfield said he grew up in Birmingham with parents that were involved in the food service industry, and he has managed Southside Café in Lakeview and the landmark Bogue’s Restaurant off Clairmont Avenue.
Whitfield said only minor renovations were needed before opening Brook Highland Bar and Grill, which was formerly home to The Boot.
“It was a pretty quick turnaround,” Whitfield said and added that future plans call for an expanded patio, new furniture and more.
The menu at Brook Highland Bar and Grill includes familiar bar and grill favorites such as buffalo wings and burgers but also Southern dishes such as fried green tomatoes, chicken fried chicken and chop steak.
“I didn’t want it to be thrown in a category,” Whitfield said about avoiding conventional labels about the type of food served. “It’s not a burger place; it’s not a wing place. I’ve been at places famous for like meat-and-three. We’re trying to implement more and more of that, but I don’t want to change the identity of the place either. I don’t ever want to get away from that.”
