Dennis “Mickey” Gannon, age 79, of Shelby, passed away Friday, April 26.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at Bolton Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 2 at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Gardens. Bolton Funeral Home is directing.

Mickey was born May 1, 1939 in Pontiac, Michigan. He graduated from Vina High School in 1958, served in the US Navy for four years, attended Nunnelley State Technical College, was an instructor in HVAC Systems at Shelby County Vocational School, owned Gannon Heating and Cooling, and retired from Alabama Power Company. You could always find Mickey working in his garden, cheering on the Tide, or telling a good joke.

Mickey is preceded in death by his mother, Sonnie Maybelle Gannon; father, Barney Wilson Gannon; brother, Jimmy Gannon; sister, Diane Gannon; aunt, Annie Overton; and uncle, Forrest Overton.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Taylor Gannon; sons, Dennis Michael “Mike” Gannon, II (Donna) and Shawn Taylor Gannon; daughters, Lisa Gannon Gould (Keith) and Julia Michelle Gannon; grandchildren, Jennifer Gannon Green (Allen), Hugh William Gould (Jessica), Chase Michael Gannon (Haley), Taylor Calvin Gannon, and Josilyn Michelle Willis; and great grandchildren, Braylen, Judson, and Saylor Green and Eva and Bella Lee.
