Shelby County residents looking to get rid of unused or unwanted prescription medication to cut down on possible sources of drug abuse in the community will have a chance to do so during Prescription Drug Takeback Day on April 27.
Several locations throughout the county will host drive-through drop-off zones to allow residents to properly dispose of old, expired or unwanted prescription medications.
The takeback day will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and will be sponsored locally by the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and municipal police departments.
At each drop-off location, area law enforcement officials will accept unused prescription medications, and will ensure they are properly destroyed.
The following locations will serve as drop-off locations on April 27:
-Greystone YMCA at 5414 U.S. 280 in Birmingham
-Hoover City Hall at 100 Municipal Lane in Hoover
-Montevallo Drug at 3990 Alabama 25 in Montevallo
-Pelham Recreation Center at 2020 Ballpark Road in Pelham
-Dick’s Sporting Goods at 200 South Colonial Drive in Alabaster
-Winn Dixie at 150 Chelsea Corners Way in Chelsea
