COLUMBIANA – Shelby County will look to top last year’s record-breaking attendance numbers next month at the annual Shelby County Senior Picnic, county leaders said during an April 8 meeting.

The county will host senior citizens from across the area on Thursday, May 2, at the Shelby County Exhibition Center at 86 Argo Road in Columbiana at this year’s picnic from 8:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.

In addition to plenty of food and fellowship, this year’s picnic will feature performances from Three on a String, Leah and Tom Slaughter, 2Blu and the Lucky Stiffs and the Sugar Babies.

The county is encouraging those interested in attending the picnic to register by April 20 by calling 610-7994, faxing 610-7993 or by visiting Shelbyal.com.

Attendees are asked to list each name in their parties so event organizers have an accurate head count for door prizes, food and give-away items.

The event is open to those 55 and older, and those with transportation needs are asked to notify the registration office at 610-7994.

Picnic sponsors are Shelby County, Shelby Volunteers in Service Inc., M4A, Positive Maturity and YMCA Birmingham.

Driving directions to the event are as follows:

-Traveling on I-65 south, take exit 234 (Shelby County Airport)

-At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Shelby County 87, which turns into Shelby County 12.

-Travel on Shelby County 12 until reaching a stop sign, and then turn left onto Shelby County 22.

-Travel on Shelby County 22 about nine miles, and turn right onto Argo Road/Kelly Lane to reach the Shelby County Exhibition Center, and look for the picnic entrance signs.
