NORTH SHELBY – Parents of Inverness Elementary School students had the opportunity to see their children perform while supporting the school during the annual Showcase event on Friday, March 15.
The Showcase included musical performances by the IES cheerleaders, then teachers and then students in each grade at the school, kindergarten through third grade.
The teachers performed a glow dance routine, and School Principal Christine Hoffman said student performances were songs they had learned in music class, with every student in the school invited to participate.
“It’s just a fun time for the families to get together to have a good time and see what the students have been doing,” Hoffman said. “It’s a time for building of community. The PTO does an excellent job organizing it to make it a fun night.”
Admission to the event was free, but funds for the school were generated through a silent auction, art show and food purchased from food trucks and vendors.
Proceeds benefitted the Inverness Elementary School PTO, which organized the event and this year has targeted technology and professional development for donations to the school.
For the silent auction, each classroom developed its own theme and put together a basket to be auctioned off.
Students and teachers collected donations for the baskets from businesses and parents.
Also, grab bags were available again this year for $20 and included a variety of items.
The art show featured framed artwork from all IES students, and parents could purchase the pieces for $30 each.
Artwork had been created throughout the year in art class, and pieces to be displayed and sold were selected by the school’s art teacher and then framed.
Full Moon, City Bowls, Marco’s Pizza, Zaxby’s, Baba Java Coffee, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Bruster’s were on hand selling food, with a portion of the proceeds going to the school.
This year was the sixth for the Showcase, which has become so popular that parking is offered at Kohl’s with shuttles available to the school.
