COLUMBIANA – Shelby County residents looking to do a little spring or fall cleaning will be able to dispose of items for free during a pair of free days at the Shelby County Landfill this year.
The Shelby County Commission recently announced the pair of dates at the landfill, which is at 401 Landfill Road off Alabama 70 between Columbiana and Calera.
The free days will be held on Saturday, April 6, and Saturday, Oct. 5, from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day.
All participants must be unloaded and exited by 3:30 p.m., according to the county.
“In an effort to assist Shelby County residents with their spring clean-up projects, the Shelby County Commission has designated this as a free day to dispose of yard and household debris,” read a county press release about the April 6 free day. “Shelby County Development Services-Landfill Division asks that residents cover and secure their loads while traveling to the landfill to prevent litter and trash from being deposited along the roadside.
The free day is open to Shelby County residents only, and all commercial, business and out-of-county customers will be charged the landfill’s standard rates.
