CMS basketball teams recognized by City Council

CHELSEA – Chelsea Middle School’s boys and girls eighth grade basketball teams combined to lose only one game this past season, and on Tuesday, Feb. 5, their excellence was recognized at a Chelsea City Council meeting.
Players from both teams were called to the front of the Council Chambers, where they were recognized by Mayor Tony Picklesimer and the Council, and presented with a gift from the city.
The CMS girls team went through two seasons undefeated, posting a 32-0 record while outscoring their opponents 1,198 to 530, or an average of about 37 to 17 per game.
The team includes Avery Brittain, Emma Pohlmann, HC Oldenburg, Nora Breedlove, Madison Moore, Sophia Brown, Lexi Redd, Julia Davison, Makenzie Fennell, Hardy Erwin, Lauryn Rowser and Jade Parker.
Brown was named to the All-Tournament Team, and Redd was the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Head coach is Jenni Brown, and assistant coaches are Ginny Prosch and Teneal Smith.
The boys team, meanwhile, went 13-1 while outscoring opponents 616 to 425, or an average of 44-30 per game.
The team includes Dylan Brown, Caden Cook, AJ Freer, EJ Hudnall, JyDarian McKinney, Walker Thomas, Joshua Christian, Ahmed Diallo, Walker Gailey, Paul Lanzi, Alex Redd and Emmanuel Waller.
Head coach is Lee Hibbs, and assistant coach is Joshua Jackson.
Paul Lanzi led the team with 137 points, and Alex Redd scored 125 points.
Redd and AJ Freer led the team in rebounds.
Redd was named Most Valuable Player of the SOCON Tournament, and the All-Tournament Team also included Lanzi, Cook and Hudnall.
“This team played with alot of pride and was tenacious on defense,” Hibbs said. “I am extremely proud of their accomplishments this year.”
