CLANTON – Thanks to a combined 50 points from Kendan Maddox and Chris Brown, the Pelham Panthers were able to take down Chilton County by a final score of 76-49 on Friday, Jan. 4, to pick up their 12th win of the season heading into area play.
Early on the two teams traded baskets with the Tigers leading by one midway through the period, before a three from Blake Floyd gave the Panthers a slim 11-9 lead.
It not only gave Pelham the advantage, but also started an 11-0 run by the Panthers that saw them gather 10-point, 19-9, lead at the end of the opening period.
A basket by Keyuntay Kine to start the second cut that lead to eight, but was quickly answered by a basket from Chris Brown. Jacob Shumate made it a 13-point lead by the Panthers with Brown later extending it even further to 15.
However, a couple of baskets from Kine along with a 3-pointer allowed the Tigers to pull within eight as the first half came to a close with Pelham leading 33-25.
Floyd started the second half with a three for the Panthers and along with a basket by Kendan Maddox, the lead was extended to 15 for Pelham.
Dalton Patterson answered with a three for Chilton, but six straight by Pelham pushed the Panthers way out in front by 18 points.
That’s when Brown really started heating up as the final three minutes of the quarter revolved around him pouring in nine points for the Panthers, which aided in Pelham’s lead swelling to 28 points at the end of the third period with a 59-31 advantage.
DaFaebian Wright and Riley Thornton got the scoring underway to start the final period of play, but that was answered by a pair from Maddox and Shumate to keep the lead at 28 points.
A pair of 3-pointers by Thornton cut the lead to 22, but that was again quickly answered by four points from Maddox along with a basket from Brown to again make it a 28-point lead as the last remaining seconds ticked off the clock with Pelham closing out the 76-49 win.
Maddox led the Panthers with 26 points seven rebounds, while Brown added 24 points and seven rebounds.
Thornton led the Tigers with 11 points 3 rebounds.
