John Elmo Weas

John Elmo Weas, age 84, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20.

John was a loving husband who was married to the love of his life, Cookie, for 55 years. His children were his pride and joy, as anyone he spoke with well knew. He loved to read and had a wealth of knowledge that he willingly shared with everyone he met.

John dedicated his life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1963. He also worked for Alabama Power for 32 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Weas and Lucille “Lucy” Nelson, and brother, Tom Weas.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn “Cookie” Gottier Weas; sons, David Bunn (Brenda) of Centerburg, Ohio and Chris Weas (Elizabeth) of Mountain Brook; daughter, Ashlee Weas Smith (Andy) of Calera; granddaughters, Beth Phillips and Alyssa Weas; grandson, Russell Weas; brother, Ron Weas; sister, Susie Campbell; and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 29 at 3 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 839 16th St, Calera, Alabama 35040.
