Walter B. Shew
Vincent
Walter B. Shew of Vincent went home to a family reunion with his mother, Edna, father, Roy, and brother, Phillip, on Wednesday, Dec. 19. He was born on June 1, 1941.
Walter graduated Vincent High School and married his high school sweetheart Norma Hatcher, the following September. They were blessed with two daughters, Ginger and Leslie.
The funeral service will be Sunday, Dec. 23 at 3 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Vincent. Interment will follow at Vincent City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. at the church.
Walter was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 312. As an operating engineer, he operated a crane helping to build power plants and several buildings in Birmingham. In the late 1980s, he served as president of the local, eventually transitioning to Assistant Business manager where he learned that a desk job can, indeed, make you tired.
While working and raising a family, Walter and Norma were both charter members of Calvary Baptist Church in Vincent. Walter served in several roles at Calvary including Sunday School teacher, deacon, and chairman of deacons as well as serving on several committees.
He was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed scuba diving, painting figures, creating dioramas, and watching Alabama football.
Walter was loved, and he will be missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma (Hatcher) Shew; daughters Ginger Shew-Stuckey and husband Jeff Stuckey, Leslie (Shew) McCord; grandchildren Jeffrey Stuckey, Stevie McCord, and Zeb McCord; great-grandchildren Sebastion Wilkerson, Will Wilkerson, Brooklyn Linder, and Dylan Linder; niece Samantha (Shew) Whatley and husband Brian Whatley; nephew Ben Shew and wife Andrea and their girls Amber and Rebecca.
Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Edna Shew, and his brother, Phillip Shew and his wife, Debbie (Reynolds) Shew.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Calvary Baptist Church Special Fund.
Kilgroe Funeral Home – Pell City will direct the service.
