CHELSEA – Chelsea was filled with the Christmas spirit on Saturday, Dec. 15, as the city hosted its 19th Christmas parade, a Jingle and Mingle with Santa event and Santa Claus visiting residents on the back of a Chelsea fire truck.
The parade began first, at 10 a.m., starting at Chelsea Middle School and making its way down Shelby County 39 and Shelby County 47 to the Winn-Dixie shopping center.
Local first responders, athletic teams, youth baton twirlers and more were represented during the parade that lasted about an hour.
Of course, the centerpiece of the parade was Santa Claus, but it was far from his final appearance of the day in Chelsea.
Even before the beginning of the parade, entertainers were taking the stage off Shelby County 47 behind Winn-Dixie. Performers included Edwina Chappell, Emily Sims, Haley Houston and Landon Jones.
Following the parade, Jingle and Mingle with Santa was held at the Chelsea Community Center.
Along with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, residents had the opportunity to take photos with characters from Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella, Paw Patrol, Dora the Explorer and Spider-Man.
The event also featured a bounce house, face painting, balloon artist and crafts for children.
Beginning at 1 p.m. and lasting past 6 p.m., Chelsea Fire and Rescue helped Santa Claus make his way around town to visit with residents.
