NORTH SHELBY – The Oak Mountain girls basketball team took care of business on Tuesday, Dec. 4 using its size advantage to cruise to a 54-24 home win over the Helena Huskies.
After a competitive back-and-forth first quarter that saw the Eagles take a slim 10-9 lead, it was all Oak Mountain from that point forward.
All of Helena’s points in the first quarter came from beyond the three point line as KK Busby, Autumn Edmonds and Julia Hensley each knocked one down, but the Huskies would make just one three pointer the remainder of the game.
Oak Mountain center Hannah Edwards took over the game in the second quarter by scoring 11 of her 19 total points in the period to dominate the Huskies. This helped spur a 22-5 Eagle run in the quarter to give Oak Mountain a 32-14 halftime lead.
In the second half, Oak Mountain forced Helena into a number of mistakes and turnovers as the Huskies had no player finish in double figures scoring.
Oak Mountain’s second leading scorer in the game was Kailey Rory who finished with 10 points in the win.
