HELENA – After finishing in third place in the Sneaky Pete’s Rebel Classic the week of Thanksgiving, the Helena Huskies varsity boys basketball team wanted to keep the momentum going after returning from the break.
The Huskies did just that on Tuesday, Nov. 27 as they routed Chilton County 72-40 where several players saw playing time.
After opening the first quarter with a 15-8 lead, Helena continued to build on its lead throughout the game with the most successful quarter coming in the third period.
With a 26-17 halftime lead, the Huskies outscored the Tigers 24-17 in the third quarter as Nate Andrews helped lead the way with 10 points in the quarter after going scoreless in the first half.
Andrews was one of three Huskies to finish the game in double figures in the win. Andrews finished with 12 points, all of which came in the second half, Caden Pierce led all scorers with 21 points and Daunte Cave added 18 points for Helena.
In the third and fourth quarters, Helena went deep into its bench as eight players recorded at least three points in the game. Jaden Jackson, Chase Smith and Jacob Johnson all finished with five points apiece.
Despite the 32-point win, Helena did leave several points at the foul line as the Huskies shot just 16-of-28 as a team from the charity stripe.
Next up, Helena will travel to McAdory to take on the Yellow Jackets on Thursday, Nov. 29.
