HELENA – After rescheduling the annual Helena Belles Powder Puff game from Nov. 15 after some unseasonably cold fall weather, the day couldn’t have been better on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Helena Sports Complex as the game resulted in thousands of dollars raised for a local ministry.
As both teams battled it out on the gridiron, the true reason for the game was to raise money for a worthy cause as all ticket proceeds benefitted Oak Mountain Missions Ministries in Pelham.
In the end, the check presented to Oak Mountain Missions Ministries from the Helena Belles totaled $2,665 that the organization may use at their discretion.
Oak Mountain Missions Ministries is a 501(c)(3) organization that demonstrates the love of Christ by providing food, clothing, furniture and financial assistance to those in need in Shelby County and the greater Birmingham area.
The game provided plenty of fun as several Helena varsity football players served as coaches for both teams.
To participate in the Helena Belles, girls are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of community service per year and represent the city of Helena in a way that will bring honor to the program.
In addition, Helena Belles must be of good character, have a pleasant personality, be enrolled in school, maintain good grades for their entire term and enjoy the civic responsibility of serving their city and loyal charities.
