ABBEVILLE – Vincent High School’s season came to a close Friday night, falling at sixth-ranked Abbeville, 56-0, in the first round of the AHSAA Class 2A playoffs.

The Yellow Jackets were held to less than 100 yards of total offense on the night, falling behind 34-0 in the first half.

The loss is Vincent’s fourth-straight to close the season with a 3-8 record after winning three-in-a-row Sept. 28 to Oct. 12 to earn the program’s first playoff bid since 2014. Despite the loss, first-year Vincent head coach Lucas Weatherford says the playoff appearance is a step in the right direction.

“We improved culture wise this year, but we still have a long way to go. Getting to the playoffs was a huge step forward, but it’s got to become the expectation, not the reward,” Weatherford said. “We have a lot of younger guys that are hungry and the future is bright. I’m excited about getting a full offseason with these guys and continuing to build.”

Abbeville (10-1) advances to the second round of the playoffs to host Luverne on Nov. 16.
