Alabama Rep. Jim Carns will serve another term representing House District 48 after winning his bid for re-election on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Carns received 2,121 votes in Shelby County, which was good for 63.2 percent, compared to 1,229 votes, or 36.6 percent from his democratic opposition Alli Summerford.
House District 48 covers the north part of Shelby County from Brook Highland slightly across 119 into the Greystone/Hoover area and cuts off at U.S. 280.
The majority of the district, however, lies in Jefferson County covering cities such as Birmingham, Homewood, Irondale, Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills.
Some of Carns career highlights include representing South Jefferson and North Shelby counties from 1990 to 2006, serving as the Minority Leader as the chairman of the House Republican Caucus, serving on the Jefferson County Commission and more.
