MONTEVALLO – High school juniors and seniors interested in studying mass communication in college had the opportunity to tour the University of Montevallo’s Mass Communication Program at the Exploring Mass Communication Day on Oct. 26.

Nearly 60 students were signed up to attend faculty-led workshops for Gathering Story Ideas, Basic News Producing, Good Video and Audio with a Camcorder, Intermediate News Producing, Interviewing Tips, TV Studio Production, TV Graphics Basics, Social Media, Basic Newscast and Advanced Newscast.

Department of Communication professor and chair Dr. Randall Scott said the event was a recruitment tool designed to introduce students to the program’s course offerings and facilities.

“We have these really outstanding facilities,” Scott said.

Current Mass Communication students helped work the event.

Kendall Messer, a third-year student in broadcast production, said she has attended two of the most recent preview days.

The Exploring Mass Communication Day came the day after COMS Day, an event the Communication Studies senior seminar class organizes to delve into career options in Communication with guest presentations and networking opportunities.

Mass Communication and Communication Studies make up the Department of Communication.
