HOOVER – An Alabaster 14-year-old is facing a capital murder charge after he was arrested on Oct. 23 in connection with a weekend shooting in the parking lot of a Hoover apartment complex.
The Hoover Police Department arrested the juvenile male and charged him with the capital offense two days after officers responded to the parking lot of the 2300 building at The Park at Hoover apartment complex on a report of a shooting.
Because of the suspect’s age, authorities are not releasing his identity.
When officers and Hoover firefighters arrived on the scene of the apartment complex shortly before 5 p.m. on Oct. 21, they found 23-year-old Darryl Levon Seay suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. Seay was transported by the HFD to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
“The investigation confirmed that the shooting took place during a drug transaction,” read an HPD statement. “Detectives followed up on leads throughout the night and were able to identify the shooter.”
After presenting the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued for the juvenile suspect. The teen was transferred to Jefferson County Family Court after he was taken into custody.
The HPD thanked the Alabaster Police Department for its assistance with the case.
