Samara Monique Harris, 28, of Inverness, was arrested on Sept. 7 on the felony charge and released the same day after posting $5,000 bond.

Harris disputes the allegation, according to her attorney, Brett Knight.

According to Harris’ arrest warrant, during examination of a canine taken to Chelsea Animal Hospital, radiographs showed multiple healed and active bone fractures.

The fractures included a rib fracture, metacarpal fracture, multiple orbital fractures, trauma to cervical spine, and separation along the growth plate of the pelvis, according to court records.

“Because of the severity and magnitude of the dog’s wounds, as well as the severe emaciation, the dog was euthanized,” the warrant read.

The alleged abuse took place Sept. 4-5, according to records.

Knight said Harris denies the abuse.

“Holly Grace was a loving and adored member of their family, and Mrs. Harris is devastated by her passing,” Knight said. “Mrs. Harris adamantly denies any wrongdoing in connection with this matter and she plans to enter a plea of not guilty. Mrs. Harris fully cooperated with law enforcement and we are conducting our own investigation in hopes of resolving this case as soon as possible.”

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 15 with Judge Daniel A. Crowson Jr. presiding.
