Shelby County 24, Bibb County 30

It was another rough go of it for the Shelby County Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 14, as they dropped their fourth consecutive game to start the season with a difficult 30-24 loss to Bibb County.

The positive is that Shelby County scored the most points it has all season and more than it had the previous three weeks combined, but the negative is the Wildcats are now 0-4 overall and 0-2 in region play.

Shelby County, however, will have plenty of chances over its final six games, taking on just one team that is currently above .500 on the year.

The Wildcats will now take on a winless Marbury team on Sept. 21, as one of those two teams will pick up their first win of the 2018 season as well as a region win.

Coosa Valley 22, Lakeside 38

The Coosa Valley Rebels fell to 1-4 on the season after a 38-22 loss to region foe Lakeside on Friday, Sept. 14.

Now 0-2 in region play, the Rebels need some big wins in the future and will have two non-region games to figure out what needs to be fixed before they take on Edgewood Academy on Oct. 5.

It’s a young team that is growing as the season goes along and just scoring points after back-to-back shutouts is a step in the right direction. This is a Lakeside team that is now 3-1.

Coosa Valley will now travel to Lowndes Academy on Sept. 21 to take on a team that is 3-1 overall and has yet to give up more than 13 points in a single game, holding three of its four opponents to less than 10 points.

Pickens Academy 22, Cornerstone 21

It has been a struggle for the Cornerstone Christian Chargers in recent weeks. After starting 1-0 with a 41-14 victory against Sparta Academy, the Chargers have now lost four consecutive games in a row after a very difficult to swallow 22-21 loss to region foe Pickens Academy on the road on Friday, Sept. 14.

With the loss the Chargers fell to 1-4 overall, but more importantly 0-2 in region play with just three region contests left to play. Luckily for Cornerstone, none of those teams are above .500 this year, while two of them have won a combined one game.

It’s been a tough go so far for the Chargers, but there is plenty of opportunity still ahead.
