Motorcycle ride to honor POWs, MIAs set for Sept. 21

PELHAM – Residents will have an opportunity to pay their respects and remember prisoners of war and those missing in action at an upcoming motorcycle ride and flag raising ceremony on Friday, Sept. 21 at Harley Davidson.
Riders from an American Legion post in Mobile will be traveling the state performing memorial ceremonies for POWs and MIAs. The group’s journey will begin at the state’s American Legion headquarters in Montgomery. As they travel from post to post, they will pick up American Legion riders from each post.
The riders are scheduled to arrive in Pelham at 10 a.m. The American Legion Matthew Blount Post 555 Riders will participate in a ceremony that will be performed at the Harley Davidson flag pole. After the ceremony, the riders will rest and prepare for the continuation of their journey.
Post 555 Commander Tom McDaniel said the event is open to the public and encouraged residents to attend the event.
Post 555 Riders Director Jeff Monday said about 20-30 riders are expected to ride into Pelham. He expects 4-5 Post 555 riders to join the journey.
