HELENA–The Helena Police Explorers were recently honored at the Helena City Council meeting for a couple of solid finishes at the National Law Enforcement Exploring competition early this summer.

In July, the Helena Police Explorers, which consists of young men and women between the ages of 14-21 interested in law enforcement, traveled to Purdue University located in West Lafayette, Indiana to compete against several other explorer teams from across the U.S.

After the competition, Helena came away with a top 10 finish as a team including a seventh place finish in bomb threat and response. Individually, Helena’s Spencer Hollon finished in the top 10 in the country for individual pistol shooting.

For their efforts, the Helena Police Explorers were honored at the Aug. 27, City Council meeting.

“This year they represented us very well and brought home a little bit of hardware,” Helena Police Chief Pete Folmar said. “The team as a whole finished in the top 10 in several things and as they usually do every other year they represented us very well.”

The national competition takes place every two years as Helena will look to compete strong once again in 2020.

The mission of the Helena Police Explorers is to instill, using law enforcement as a medium, basic values such as honesty, integrity, team work and pride, in young men and women in the community.
