COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Commission recently received bids from two companies for an expansion project of the Shelby County Courthouse.
Both Douglas Built, LLC and P and M Mechanical submitted bids for the project, which will add two new courtrooms to the courthouse and remodel existing courtrooms. Douglas Built’s base bid amounted to $4,330,000 and P and M Mechanical’s bid was $4,500,000.
At a Shelby County Commission meeting on Monday, July 9, Alex Dudchock said they are aiming to award bids based on each company’s base bid with modifications. Dudchock said the two main components of the bid were HVAC and electricity.
Shelby County Facilities and General Services Manager Reed Prince said the two courtrooms will be built on the third floor. Prince said the additions will enable all court suites and judges’ offices on the first floor to move to the third floor and relocate the juvenile court suites to the first floor. Prince said the project’s estimated completion date is around September 2019.
Dudchock said the county is hoping to award a bid by the next Shelby County Commission meeting on July 23.
