PELHAM – The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony for the new Pelham Public Library on Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m.
The $4 million, 20,000 square-foot facility, which sits on U.S. 31 in Pelham City Park in front of Pelham Park Middle School and Pelham Recreation Center, is set to open a year after its groundbreaking ceremony was held in May of last year.
Library director Mary Campbell said the grand opening will feature a ribbon cutting and guests will be allowed to go on self-guided tours of the library. Activities for children will be set up in the Maker Space and two door prizes, sponsored by Midwest Tape LLC, will be awarded.
Campbell said refreshments will be provided by Newk’s in Hoover and Pelham’s Texas Roadhouse.
Guests will be allowed to begin checking out items from the library at the grand opening.
As of right now, Campbell said all of the books and materials are on library shelves and the city is now awaiting the arrival of a few pieces of furniture.
“We’re in the process of getting the computers up and running and trying to make it all look nice,” Campbell said. “Everything is coming together wonderfully.”
