CHELSEA – The Chelsea Kiwanis Club is gearing up to host its eighth annual Fire at the Foothills BBQ and Chili Cook-off at Chelsea City Hall from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.
“In the finest Chelsea tradition, there will be fun for the whole family – live music, (barbecue) and chili tastings and a children’s play area,” read a press release from the Chelsea Kiwanis Club.
Both the Kansas City Barbecue Society and the Alabama Barbecue Association have sanctioned the barbecue contest held at Fire at the Foothills.
According to the Chelsea Kiwanis Club, all of the proceeds raised by the barbecue tasting and donations at the entrance of the event will benefit charitable organizations that help children in Chelsea and surrounding areas. All of the proceeds raised through the chili cook-off will be donated to Chelsea Fire and Rescue.
The event is free to the public, and Chelsea Kiwanis Club Treasurer Mike Denton said a donation of $5 per adult visitor is appreciated.
Denton described Fire at the Foothills as a “rain or shine event,” and said it would be held regardless of the weather.
All barbecue and chili cook-off entries are due by Sunday, April 15. The Chelsea Kiwanis Club said everyone is welcome to participate in both contests. Registration forms and more information about Fire at the Foothills is available online at Chelseakiwanis.org or on the “Fire at the Foothills BBQ & Chili Cook-off” Facebook page.
