Merlyn L. Hooten, 79, of Columbiana, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15.
He was born April 22, 1938 in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Wilbur and Dorothy (Fonseth) Hooten. On Aug. 12, 1972, he married Gloria Reach, who still survives.
Merlyn is also survived by his daughter, Diana (Mark) Scudder of Greensburg, Indiana; son, Richard (Rose) Hooten of Osgood, Indiana; son, Robert Hooten of Greensburg, Indiana; stepson, Terry Reach of Alabaster; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Charlene Hammerle; and son, Jon E. Hooten.
Merlyn graduated from Greensburg High School in 1956. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, fishing and cooking. He was a butcher most of his life.
A celebration of Merlyn’s life will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo) at 2 p.m. The family will receive from beginning at 10 a.m, and burial will follow at Mt. Era Cemetery in Saginaw.
